UK Government Pre-treatment regulations and increased Landfill Tax |
With environmental fears looming ever larger and new European Packaging Directives in force, the need to increase recycling has now taken hold of the former “dirty man of Europe”.
Government Pre-Treatment regulations effective from 30th October 2007,which are being increasingly enforced, means that all UK business waste will have to be treated before landfill and increased recycling will be necessary.
To support this legislation, in his last budget, Chancellor Alistair Darling announced a continued increase in the standard rate of landfill tax of £8 per tonne per year up to 2013. |
This tax measure is intended to encourage investment in sustainable waste management with the goal of enabling over 850,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent savings to be made each year.
Secretary of State for Environment, Hilary Benn, said, “The Government is committed to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and finding alternative sources of energy”.
Recognising that recycling and the environment is a key policy for the Government & EU, Reverse Vending Corporation has launched a range of new recycling machines to complement its current range of Reverse Vending Recycling machines which are extensively in used in the recycling of used beverage containers throughout Continental Europe & worldwide.
The new range of recycling machines will help increase national recycling and assist companies and organisations comply with their packaging pre-treatment targets and their environmental recycling obligations. |
